Loathe: Being so far away

Don't get me wrong, I love NZ. But I just really hate that we are so far away from everything! Surrounded by ocean, it takes us a good few hours to get anywhere. And let's be honest, Australia is not that exciting.

Sometimes I think how awesome it would be to live in Europe, the Americas or Asia or Africa for that matter, and just cross from one country into another.

Can't wait till I can just travel around. That's what I'm planning to spend my mid to late twenties doing. Work for a few years, save up some money. Travel around South America. Then work and live in Canada for a while. Save up some more money. Visit Europe sporadically. And eventually spend a few weeks travelling around Asia before I come back home to NZ.

Oh dreams!

Loathe: Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano

Oh my. This is the ash cloud that will not go away. My flight home got cancelled last week because Jetstar wasn't flying. And it turns out that the ash cloud is coming back around. Fingers crossed that it's not going to disrupt my flight home on Sunday. I don't mean to sound like a whiny, white, upper-middle class twit (as Bridget Jones would say) but it's just really frustrating. I would love to stay home a bit longer, but I got shit ta do - ya know!

But I realise that a few days of flight disruption is much more preferable to what people in South America, particularly close to the volcano are experiencing right now. And the devastating impact it is having on their lives and the environment.

Love: Going home

My family - my Mum and brother, as well as grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins all live in the Waikato. Which means for me, living down in Wellington, I don't get to see them very often. With school and work to fit around, not the mention the cost of travelling to Hamilton and back I only get to see them a few times a year. But that's ok. It's what happens when you grow up. I still talk to my family every week and they come down to Wellington when they can. The following are some snap shots from the Chiefs v. Red rugby game we went to on Saturday. Terribly boring - sadly!

Love: Christchurch

Today, Christchurch suffered yet another set of earthquakes. At 1pm and 2.20pm a 5.5 and a 6.0 earthquake hit the city of Christchurch. Aftershocks and earthquakes have been a common feature in the city since the devastating earthquake in February this year, which saw the death 187 people.

My heart goes out to all those people living in Christchurch. I really don't know how they do it. Talking to friends who have family and friends in the region, it sounds like a nightmare. There are constant aftershocks and once they start to get right again they seemed to get knocked back down.

I could not do it. These people and this community are so amazing and brave.

I will do this!

I cannot count the amount of times that I have attempted to start a blog. I generally just ramble for a few posts and then completely forget about the thing.

But this time I am determined to do things differently! Hence why I have a theme. The theme and title of my blog is 'love - like -loathe' and I shall write about things I like, love and loathe. Very simple, easy and clear process.

Lets hope this works!

Alternatively, I am also on tumblr, which I update regularly; http://thisisourrevolution.tumblr.com/
